Johnson Johnsons new hiring platform promises not to leave job applicants in the dark
Johnson Johnsons new hiring platform promises not to leave job applicants in the darkJohnson Johnsons new hiring platform promises not to leave job applicants in the darkHow many times have you spent hours sifting through job postings, and mustered up the stamina to send off not one, not two, but three applications into the dark technological abyss, only to hear nothing back from even one of the companies?Knowingthis is all too common,Johnson Johnson rolled out a new candidate experience platform in the U.S. this week- called Shine - that the company says will bring people who apply for jobs there greater transparency by letting them see what stage their application is in at every step of the hiring process.Johnson Johnson haspledgedto get users out of the dark.Sjoerd Gehring, Global VP of Talent Acquisition and Millennial ERG leader at Johnson Johnson, talkedLadders through the ins and outs of how the new platform will work.Heres what job seekers should know. How it worksAs fo r the name, Shine, were really trying to shine a light on a black kasten experience, Gehring told Ladders. After applying to a position at Johnson Johnson, applicants are invited to the Shine platformwhere they can see how their application is faring behind the scenes. Theyll find out the expectations up front, Gehring said.Since the tracking system updates in real time, applicants can see where their application is at any given moment, plus get a feel for how long it takes to move between points. But say someone applies to multiple jobs at the company? They can monitor each ones individual progress on Shine.Job seekers can also follow Johnson Johnsons newTwitter handle for the platform,JNJShine, for information and to direct message recruiters with questions related to their job applications. It still may not be quickWe never rush into hiring decisions, but what were able to do is be much more transparent with job seekers in terms of what they can expect, Gehring told Ladders.Once you submit an application, it isnt necessarily all go, go, go on the companys side.Depending on where you are in the process and when the process ends, you could get a call from a recruiter, definitely a call from Johnson Johnson, he said. What happens if you dont get the job?It may not necessarily be the end of the line - you may still have a future at the company. Shine provides job recommendations for other positions at the company to those who dont make the cut, according to Gehring. The need for transparency in hiringGehring said that when they approached job seekers about how Johnson Johnson could improve, transparencywas their top concern.Shine wasnt modeled after any other organization, he said, since hiring hasnt seen much disruption in decades.Referencing companies like Amazon, which lets customers track their packages and Netflix, which recommends content to consumers, Gehring saidthat they want to be able to bring those relevant expectations into the hiring process.Gehring told Ladders that Johnson Johnson receives about one million resumes each year worldwide. But while Shine was unveiled this week in U.S. - the companys biggest hiring market - the platform is expected to launch in other areas of the world in 2018.The extent to which other othercompanies will follow suit remains to be seen. Job seekers and recruiters will be watching.

5 Legal Advantages of Registering a Copyright
5 Legal Advantages of Registering a Copyright5 Legal Advantages of Registering a CopyrightRelying on mailing yourself documents (poor mans copyright) and automatic protections, is not the best way to protect your copyrights. The most reliable way to publicly establish your rights on record is still to register your copyright formally. Should You Register a Copyright? That depends on the work and the level of protection you want to have if someone uses your work without proper authorization to do so. If you are not sure, it is best to consult with an attorney who specializes in digital rights and/or intellectual property rights (which includes patents, trademarks, tafelgeschirr marks, and copyrights). Some things simply are not worth going through the formal process of registering for copyrights individually (i.e., pages on your website are not worth registering individually), but may be able to beregistered as a collection of works. Why It Pays to Register a Copyright on Impor tant Works Imagine how expensive and time consuming it would be if the government required that every web page and newspaper article or magazine spread ever written had to be formally registered to protect copyrights It would create an impossible situation for both authors, and the copyright office would be so bogged down they would not be able to keep up with all the registration applications. In pure legal theory, there is no need to copyright every original work you create in the United States because your rights may automatically be protected under existing automatic copyright laws. Automatic protection is not fool-proof, but it helps make protecting an authors basic rights easier and cuts down on government paperwork.? However, costs only run about $3545 toregister a copyright in the United States and registering important works could save you thousands of dollars in legal costs even giving you more legal remedies if you need to sue for infringement on your rights. Advantag es of Registering a Copyright Numerous advantages exist for registering a copyright on something that is really important to you, and almost all major corporations routinely register their copyrights to anything that is available to the public eye. Makes It Easier to Assert Your Rights If someone attempts to sue you, trying to make a claim against your unregistered copyrights, it may be harder to assert your rights in court. Sometimes plagiarism is obvious, but it is up to individual courts to determine who came up with something first. Since anyone can simply date a document and slap on a copyright symbol (), you never know how a court will rule. Offers Temporary Injunction Rights A Certificate of Registration that is issued within five (5) years of the creation date serves as prima facie evidence (authentic proof) that the work is original, and is owned by the registrant of the copyrighted work. With a registration, a copyright holder can get a temporary injunction agains t someone who might be infringing on their work. Permits Cease and Desist Letters Most infringement violations are settled out of court. Having a registered copyright allows the copyright holder to send a cease and desist letter that can include the real threat of further legal action should the infringer fail or refuse to comply. Right to Sue for Infringement of Copyrights In the U.S. you cannot even bring an infringement lawsuit against someone unless you have first registered your copyright. In some cases, you can always register a copyright and then file a lawsuit however, to request expedited handling will cost hundreds of extra dollars. Entitles You to Be Awarded More Money Perhaps one of the most compelling reasons for registering a copyright as soon as possible is the level of protection timely registration affords. If you register your copyright within three months of its creation, and you file and win an infringement lawsuit, you can be awarded more money. If y ou register a copyright later than three months after its creation date, you may forfeit your rights to receive statutory damages, as well as legal costs and attorneys fees.

Detroit Unemployment Rate
motor city Unemployment RateDetroit Unemployment RateDetroit Unemployment RateAccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the US unemployment tarif in December 2014 was 5.6 percent, which was more than one percent better than the previous year. Comparatively, the Detroit unemployment tarif was 7.6 percent in December 2014.How Certain Industries Have Impacted Detroit UnemploymentBLS data collected from 2013 to 2014 shows just over 369,000 workers held jobs in the professional and business services sector. That industry showed a two percent rise across the reporting period. About 27,000 people living in the Detroit, MI economic area held jobs in the information sector, which showed a 0.7 percent decline across the reporting period. The trade, transportation and utilities industries tell more favorable stories. There was 364,000 individuals employed in those types of jobs across the respective timeframe these industries saw a slight rise in the number of employed people.Industries That Are Likely to BoostDetroits Job MarketAccording to the BLSDetroit Area Economic Summary, there were just over 303,000 people employed in the education and health services sector within thecity in December 2014. That industry showed growth of 1.6 percent from 2013 to 2014, and opportunities in those areas are likely to positively affect the local unemployment rate by presenting opportunities for qualified job seekers.Detroits healthcare industry is one that the BLS projects will grow much faster than the national average through 2022. Additionally, education-related jobs should grow about as fast as average nationally. Because jobs in education services make up a large portion of Detroits job market, its likely that the trend will cause positive changes in the local unemployment rate.Job opportunities in construction climbed from 2013 to 2014, contributing to an overall workforce of about 60,500 people, according to the BLS. Nationally, the construction industry, in particular, has a good economic outlook due to the demand for new construction by businesses and homeowners. If that trend holds true at a local level, this industry should help decrease Detroits unemployment level. Also, while the automotive industry is not as strong as it once was, Detroit still retains manufacturing plants that collectively employ more than 130,000 people.Potentially Waning Industries in DetroitJobs in financial activities in Detroit fell from 2013 to 2014, which by itself indicates the overall industry is on the decline. However, national BLS data shows finance-related jobs, such as those in healthcare, should grow much faster than the United States average through 2022. Thats due in large part to rising life expectancies and population growth. Together, those factors create an increased need for professionals who are well-versed in financial planning.Leisure and hospitality job opportunities also declined in Detroit across the reporting period, although that industry employ s more than 160,000 individuals.Economic Recovery Since the 2008 RecessionFrom 2008 to 2009, Detroits unemployment rate climbed from 9.9 to 16.2 percent, indicating the area was hit hard by the 2008 recession that impacted the nation. However, things began improving as early as the next year, when the annual 2010 employment rate was just 12.6 percent.Detroits economy got slightly better in 2011, when unemployment was at 12.5 percent. The rate for 2012 and 2013 was 11.3 and 10.5 percent respectively, showing that even though the recession caused a major increase in Detroits unemployment rate, recovery followed soon after and the positive trend was consistent.A key measure of labor supply, the unemployment rate is defined as the percentage of the total labor force that is unemployed but actively seeking employment and willing to work. Studying for Air Force Basic Military Training - AFBMT
Studying for Air Force Basic Military Training - AFBMTStudying for Air Force Basic Military Training - AFBMTFailing to prepare both physically and academically for basic military training is just careless and shows a lack of understanding of what you are about to endure as a possible career for what could be a significant part of your life. It also shows a lack of initiative, a quality you will learn you need in the military. Start practicing now. As the saying goes, Failing to prepare is preparing to fail. You dont have to study a thing in advance in order to graduate from Air Force Basic Military Training (AFBMT). The Air Force already knows that you are capable of learning, because youre at least a high school graduate, you passed the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), and you impressed your recruiter enough to get into the Air Force. However, youll quickly find out during AFBMT that there is never enough time to get everything done that youre expected to do. Thats a universal rule of basic training. The mora studying you do in advance, the less time you will have to spend in the books studying during basic, and the more time you will have to do those other 20-dozen things that just have to get done, in order to avoid having a big, ugly scary person making the rest of you day miserable. Here are some things you can study in advance to make your life in AFBMT easier Air Force Ranks During basic, pretty much everybody in the world outranks you. The Air Force has two separate rank structures enlisted and officers. Enlisted folks have stripes (the more stripes, the more rank), and officers have bars, leafs, and stars. Officers always outrank enlisted folks, no matter how many stripes are on the enlisted persons shoulders. Before you graduate from Basic Training, youll have to memorize all Air Force ranks. So, why not know them before you ever arrive? This article explains the Air Force rank system. As a minimum, you should memorize the ra nk insignia (stripes or bars/leafs/stars), and their names. Drill Drill means marching, or sometimes it means just standing in place in an organized and disciplined way. Youll do a lot of drill in basic training. For the first couple of weeks, youll spend an hour or two every single day learning and practicing drill, and pretty much everywhere you go in basic, your flight (recruits you are living with) will march to. Your life in basic will be easier if you learn some of the fundamentals of drill before you even get there. As a very minimum, you should learn how to salute, and practice saluting in front of a mirror, until you have it down pat. Chain of Command All military organizations have a chain of command. A chain of a command is who is in charge of who. In the military, if you have a problem, you bring it to the lowest appropriate level in your chain of command. If he/she cant help, you can then address it to the next level in your chain, and so on. Youll be required to memorize your entire AFBMT Chain of Command by the 8th day of basic. So, why not study it in advance? Reporting In AFBMT, when you are ordered to speak with a superior, you must first report, and use your reporting statement. This article will tell you what reporting is all about, and how you can be a reporting expert before you even get to basic. Air Force Song Each military branch has a song that they consider theirs and theirs alone, and they are proud of their song. In AFBMT, youll be required to sing the Air Force Song each morning following reveille (the raising of the flag), and pretty much any time your TI wants to hear you sing it. Air Force Core Values All of the services have core values standards that their members are expected to live by. In basic training, youll be required to memorize the Air Force Corps Values, and be required to state those values, anytime the T.I. orders you to. Military Time If you dont know how to tell time the military way (i.e. 300 PM 1500 hours), this would be a good topic to study in advance. This article will help you understand how the military tells time. Social Security Number If youre like my kidsand dont know your social security number by heart, memorize it. Your social security number becomes your identification number and youll use it for almost everything (Privacy Act permitting). Want to Know More About Air Force Basic Training?
